Ralph & Sherry's Haven

Riverwood, Potomac, MD

Living a California lifestyle nestled within the Maryland hills.

Ralph and Sherry had a vision of a home, inspired by the California-modern aesthetic, that was a thoughtful blend of aesthetics and functionality - a place where they could age gracefully while surrounded by the beauty of their art and the wooded landscape around them.

The resulting home, defined by a broad sweeping gabled roofline and 20-foot-high glass walls, integrated natural stone, stucco, and wood throughout the exterior design of the facade as well as created an interior filled with light and space in abundance.

It all starts with stone.

Ascending from the hillside, a succession of stone walls forms the basis of the residence. These walls not only serve as the home's foundation but also delineate distinct zones within the landscape and outdoor living spaces. Stretching beyond the perimeter of the residence, these masonry walls seamlessly integrate the structure into the surroundings while offering platforms to showcase the owner's collection of sculptural fauna.

Single-level living with soaring ceilings and expansive views.

Sunlight bathes the interior from every angle, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Anchoring the design is a two-story primary living space, bookended by walls of glass doors and windows that provide panoramic views of the wooded property and blurs the line between the interior and the natural landscape surrounding it.

The calming embrace of nature.

Conceived as a haven from the normal pressures of everyday life, care was taken within each room to create curated vistas to invite moments of meditation to center oneself and reconnect with the beauty of the natural world just beyond the walls of this sanctuary.

Our goal was to develop a home with a wow factor. When we moved into our beautiful new house, that you created for us, we realized you did just that.
